May 30 & 31, 2013, New York, NY — Tourism Cares, NYC & Company and the City of New York eagerly welcome volunteers to give back to Coney Island and the shoreline at Jamaica Bay in Brooklyn & Queens in May of 2013.
Volunteers are urged to participate in an effort at Coney Island to paint playground benches, light posts, water fountains and decorative trash receptacles and at Jamaica Bay, Queens, participate in dune preservation and beach clean-up projects at Fort Tilden Beach. As a part of this program, special grants will also be awarded to selected tourism related sites that have suffered losses attributed to Hurricane Sandy.

Thursday, May 30
6pm – 8pm: Opening Icebreaker Reception
Register and meet your fellow volunteers! This event is limited, so please RSVP when registering.
Friday, May 31
9am – 4pm: Work Day!
Volunteers will be split into two groups – one will be working at Coney Island and the other at Jamaica Bay.
Breakfast, snacks, lunch and an after-work BBQ provided
This Tourism Cares for New York City project also marks the 10th anniversary of the Tourism Cares for America program, which, from its inception at Ellis Island in 2003, has brought together more than 3,500 travel and tourism professionals to volunteer and give back to sites across America.
